New Orleans Pelicans player Trey Murphy III has been diagnosed with a meniscus injury in his left knee. As reported by the journalist ESPNAdrian Wojnarowski, Murphy III suffered the injury on Tuesday during training.
The forward will undergo more tests soon to determine the severity of the injury and determine the best treatment to apply. Adds Wojnarowski that it is not yet clear if the player will need to undergo surgery.
Murphy, 23, established himself as a starter this past year after being selected in the 17th position of the 2021 draft. In 79 games, 65 of them as part of the starting five, he registered numbers of 14.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals, with a 40.6% accuracy in triples.
If he finally misses a considerable part of the course it will be a serious blow to the Pelicans. Meniscus injuries can be treated in various ways depending on their severity and the recovery timeline varies drastically even if the injured person undergoes surgery, depending on whether the affected area needs to be repaired or removed. Thus, some players have recovered within a period of between one or two months, while others have required an entire course to return to the courts.
