NFL Rookies Journal: Honoring the Most Prominent Rookies and Power Rankings

Every NFL Wednesday, the Rookies Journal honors the most prominent rookies. The best offensive beginner, his defensive alter ego, the action, the revelation of the week, the flop… And, finally, Power Rooking. Everything, you will know everything about Rookies!

Offensive Rookie of the Week

Bijan Robinson – RB – Atlanta Falcons (8e choix)
10 courses, 56 yards, 6 réceptions 27 yards, 1 touchdown

Expected to be a phenomenon, Bijan Robinson had already responded even before the end of the first quarter. Author of a touchdown illustrating all his talent, the new jewel of the Falcons animated the attack both on the ground and in reception. Although used sparingly (only 10 carries), his average of 5.6 yards per carry set the tone. You will have to watch him like milk on the fire.

Special Mention: Zay Flowers – WR – Baltimore Ravens (22nd pick)
9 receptions, 78 yards

Encouraging first for the new figurehead of the Ravens’ aerial game. With 9 receptions Zay Flowers has already established himself as a prime target for Lamar Jackson and has shown some flashes of his explosiveness.

Defensive Rookie of the Week

Will Anderson Jr – Edge – Houston Texans (3e choix)
6 tackles, 1 sack, 6 pressures, 1 tackle for loss

The Texans have a string of high defensive picks in the draft with some success. Presented as a future phenomenon, Will Anderson has successfully entered the NFL. He shined on the defensive line, already establishing himself as the cornerstone of the new DeMeco Ryans system. If he could not prevent the defeat of his team, he nevertheless greatly disturbed Lamar Jackson, harassing him on numerous occasions.

Special Mention: Brian Branch – S – Detroit Lions (45th pick)
3 tackles, 1 interception, 1 pass defended, 1 touchdown

First match and first decisive action for the former Alabama defender. Taking advantage of a gift from the opposing receiver, Brian Branch gave himself an interception from reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes, and even returned it for a touchdown allowing his team to come back to the level.

Action of the week

Xavier Gipson – WR/PR – New York Jets Bears (undrafted)

It was already the beautiful story of the Jets training camp, illustrated by a sequence in Hard Knocks where Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas announce to him that he will be on the team, Xavier Gipson continues to write his fairy tale in this start of the season. By offering victory to his team in overtime on a masterful punt return, the young receiver becomes the new darling of supporters who have lost their quarterback.

The revelation of the week

Puka Nacua – WR – Los Angeles Rams (177e choix)
10 receptions, 119 yards

Orphaned by Cooper Kupp who was injured again, the Rams’ offensive horizon seemed very bleak. But the light came from a young receiver drafted in the 5th round last April. Puka Nacua was omnipresent in the aerial game and was a particularly effective supporting target for Matt Stafford. The former BYU was the most productive offensive rookie of the first week.
