United States President Joe Biden congratulated Coco Gauff on her victory at the US Open and for “making America proud”. On Saturday, Gauff, 19, won her first Grand Slam title by beating Aryna Sabalenka 2-6 6-3 6-2 in the US Open final.

Gauff receives a congratulatory message from President Biden

For the first time since 2017, an American tennis player won the US Open. “Congratulations to US Open champion @CocoGauff.

You electrified Arthur Ashe Stadium and the entire nation – the first big victory of many and proof that anything is possible if you never give up and always believe.

You made America so proud,” President Biden wrote on X.

Gauff, who turns 20 in March, burst onto the scene in 2019 when she beat Venus Williams at the age of 15 and advanced to the round of 16 at Wimbledon.

At just 19 years old, Gauff has already accomplished so much in tennis. “I feel like that’s a big accomplishment, but honestly, I feel like I’ve been used to this since I was 15 in high school, doing school online.

I mean, I’m sure it’s on a much bigger scale now because of this realization, but I’m ready. I know how to keep peace while accepting everything that surrounds me and happens to me,” Gauff said.

At the start of the 2023 season, Gauff made it clear that his intention was to win a Grand Slam and reach the world No. 1 ranking this year. Today, Gauff is a Grand Slam champion and has reached her career-best ranking of third in the world.

“I think the pressure is off a little bit, but I’m still hungry. But yeah, I’m just going to enjoy this moment and try not to look ahead” Gauff said.
