PSG: expenses, balance, sales… The ten figures of a historic transfer window

Historical on many points, the transfer window of Paris Saint-Germain was particularly rich. With 12 arrivals, 11 final departures, and a new squad of 33 players rich in French internationals, the Parisian leaders have hit hard. Here are the ten key figures of this crazy transfer period.

In total, eleven players have left the club for good. Neymar (Al-Hilal), Abdou Diallo (Al-Arabi), El Chadaille Bitshiabu (Leipzig), Mauro Icardi (Galatasaray), Junior Dina Ebimbe (Frankfurt), Leandro Paredes (AS Roma), Djeidi Gassama (Sheffield Wednesday), Timothée Pembélé (Sunderland), Lionel Messi (Inter Miami), Georginio Wijnaldum (Al-Ettifaq) and Sergio Ramos (without club) will no longer wear the red and blue jersey. It’s not the first time that PSG have gotten rid of so many players. In 2019, twelve Parisians had left the ship, including Christopher Nkunku, Adrien Rabiot and Gianluigi Buffon.

Paris Saint-Germain sold for a record sum this summer. In total, the departures of the first seven cities brought in 140 million euros for the capital club, to which we add an as yet unknown sum for the transfer of Timothée Pembélé to Sunderland. The previous record dates back to the summer of 2018, when PSG collected 104 million euros during the summer transfer window.

Nine players still belonging to the Parisian club are on loan for this 2023-2024 season. Xavi Simons (Leipzig), Renato Sanches (AS Roma), Juan Bernat (Benfica), Ismaël Gharbi (Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy), Colin Dagba (Auxerre), Ayman Kari (Lorient), Noha Lemina (Sampdoria), Lucas Lavallée ( Dunkerque) and Vimoj Muntu Wa Mungu (Torino) will be able to evolve more peacefully away from the capital, before returning for the next summer preparation. Conversely, only one player is on loan at PSG: Gonçalo Ramos. But the club has a purchase option estimated at 65 million euros.

Eleven players arrived at PSG this summer. Randal Kolo Muani, Manuel Ugarte, Ousmane Dembélé, Lucas Hernandez, Bradley Barcola, Kang-in Lee, Milan Skriniar, Marco Asensio, Cher Ndour, Arnau Tenas and Gonçalo Ramos are the newcomers to a largely overhauled squad.

These eleven recruits cost Paris Saint-Germain the modest sum of 297 million euros. Randal Kolo Muani is the most expensive player, with his 75 million euros, while Manuel Ugarte (60 million), Ousmane Dembélé (50 million), Lucas Hernandez and Bradley Barcola (45 million each) have greatly increased this total .

Five signings are among the twelve most expensive inbound transfers in the club’s history. Randal Kolo Muani took third place, behind the untouchable Neymar and Kylian Mbappé. Manuel Ugarte is 7th, Ousmane Dembélé 8th, while Lucas Hernandez and Bradley Barcola share 11th place.

157

If we realize the balance between income and expenditure, Paris Saint-Germain is still largely in negative. In total, the leaders of the capital club had to take 157 million euros out of their pockets. A sum close to but still lower than the 168 million spent in the summer of 2017 when Neymar arrived against the plump sum of 222 million euros.

Only two players remain in the famous loft, where Kylian Mbappé had been placed after the announcement of his desire not to stay at PSG after the summer of 2024. These are Édouard Michut and Julian Draxler, who have not haven’t found a new home base yet.

33

Including the two lofters and Sergio Rico, who was only released from hospital on August 19 after his terrible accident which left him in a coma for 22 days, the core of Paris Saint-Germain has 33 players. We note in particular the presence of five guards since Keylor Navas has not found a new base. Among the youngsters, only Warren Zaire-Emery, holder since the start of the season, and Ilyes Housni remain.

This summer transfer window has allowed the club to regain a more tricolor identity. Thirteen core members are French, including internationals Randal Kolo Muani, Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé, Lucas Hernandez and Presnel Kimpembe. Previously, there have often been more Habs, but not as many potential starters. This season, Luis Enrique could field an eleven with half of the country’s players.
