Every NFL Wednesday, the Rookies Journal honors the most prominent rookies. The best offensive beginner, his defensive alter ego, the action, the revelation of the week, the flop… And, finally, Power Rooking. Everything, you will know everything about Rookies!
Offensive Rookie of the Week
Puka Nacua – WR – Los Angeles Rams (177e choix)
15 receptions, 147 yards
The new Cooper Kupp? Maybe not yet, but in any case, the production and importance of Nacua in the offensive game of his team follows in the footsteps of his elder. Although he has not yet scored a touchdown, the receiver is already the deal of the year as he is so impressive. With 25 balls caught in 2 games, he has more receptions than Justin Jefferson or Tyreek Hill. Just that.
Special Mention: Marvin Mims – WR – Denver Broncos (63rd choice)
2 receptions, 113 yards, 1 touchdown, 1 punt return, 45 yards
He was the detonator of the Broncos attack and a rediscovered Russell Wilson… for half-time. Totally forgotten in the second act, his team ended up sinking despite an advantage of 18 points. Mims showed how dangerous he can be in the deep game and also gave a nice glimpse of his kick return abilities.
Defensive Rookie of the Week
Christian Gonzalez – CB – New England Patriots (17e choix)
6 tackles, 1 interception, 1 pass defended
Marking Tyreek Hill for a good part of his match, the former Oregon player could have had a very bad evening. But instead, the rookie showed why he was chosen in the 1st round by New England. Limited to 40 yards, the Dolphins star was only targeted twice for no reception when he was followed by Gonzalez. And one of his two balls was even intercepted by the cornerback.
Action of the week
Charlie Jones – WR – Cincinnati Bengals (131e choix)
It’s difficult to find a place in an aerial attack that already has Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. So Charlie Jones decided to shine on special team before getting more offensive opportunities. The former Purdue player went back no less than 81 yards, making his support do the talking, to put his team back on track at the start of the 2nd quarter.

The revelation of the week
Christian Izien – DB – Tampa Bay Buccaneers (undrafted)
3 tackles, 1 interception
2 interceptions in 2 NFL matches, Christian Izien is only the 4th undrafted player in history to achieve such a performance. Under the radar and therefore snubbed in the draft, the former Rutgers player now finds himself starting the nickel position.
