This little trick usually works in favor of the big franchises, who can pay unthinkable amounts for the unlucky little ones.

Success doesn’t always lead to money

The contract between coaches and the organization is usually individual, so it is difficult to average salaries. In some contracts, they even tend to include share bonuses, meaning that if the team does well the coach will do better. Not all franchises release financial details of the front office or coaching staff, so there are some coaches who could fall anywhere on the salary spectrum. As far as we know, today, the highest paid coach in the NFL is also the most successful coach in the NFL.

Bill Belichick receives a salary of $20 million a year from the New England Patriots, making him the highest-paid coach in the league and with good reason. With six Super Bowl rings and a 23-year tenure, Belichick has had plenty of time to be named AP Coach of the Year three times and the all-time leader in playoff wins by a coach.
