September takes a while to arrive, but it goes by quickly, doesn’t it? We are already in week 3 of the 2023 season ladies and gentlemen! But please, NFL, slow down, slow down, because we want to use you!
Jokes aside, our attention remains focused on the league, but also on our beloved – and sometimes even hated (those who missed Nick Chubb say so) Fantasy Football.
Whether for those who started the year “swimming hard” with two victories, or for those who “turned on the alert” with two defeats, it is time to rethink strategies and look for reinforcements to remain at the top, or to escape the last positions.
Therefore, thinking about good exchanges can be a very profitable solution to make your team stronger and stronger in pursuit of the FF season’s objectives. To help you in this mission, your great companion The Playoffs is here once again to identify the best “buy” or “sell” targets based on the most recent performance(s) of the listed players.
That said and without further ado, let’s look at the names to target for purchases or sales for week 3.

Running backs to “buy low”:
Josh Jacobs (LV)
Same name that inaugurated the last week’s list by my friend André Amaral. Jacobs has not yet scored in the 2023 league season and remains in debt. It is true that RB practically did not participate in the team’s pre-season and that the relationship with new quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo tends to go through an adaptation process, but the justifications do not change the fact that Jacobs is below expectations. With just 48 rushing yards in the opening game against the Denver Broncos and with two NEGATIVE yards (that’s right) on the ground in Week 2 against the Bills, Jacobs had a little success with just the seven combined receptions he had in the two matchups, totaling 74 yards. No TD yet for the RB and alert is on for whoever drafted him. It may be a good chance to “buy” it by paying less than it is really worth.
Joe Mixon (CIN)
The Bengals’ attack definitely hasn’t done well in two weeks and to make matters worse, Joe Burrow is doubtful for Week 3, in a complicated duel that the team faces the Los Angeles Rams. With the entire offensive system struggling so far, Joe Mixon is below what was expected for him this season and without scoring TDs so far. Okay, there are already more than 100 ground yards for the running back and more than 50 air yards, but a little more was expected from a player who came out in the second round or at most in the third in many leagues. I look at Mixon and have a good chance of trying to get him on my team.
Other RBs to “buy low”: Jahmyr Gibbs (DET), Saquon Barkley (NYG), Austin Ekeler (LAC), Javonte Williams (DEN), Breece Hall (NYJ)
Running backs to “sell high”:
Kyren Williams (LAR)
A big surprise among the NFL’s RBs so far, Kyren Williams didn’t just “stole” Cam Akers’ spot as the Rams’ RB1 (before he was traded to the Vikings) as it has been presenting excellent numbers, whether on land or in the air. Only Christian McCaffrey has scored more than the young man so far in Fantasy in the running back position and that’s no surprise. There were 19 rushing attempts for him, with 104 ground yards for three TDs, in addition to six aerial receptions for 50 yards and a TD. Who stops this “little monster”? However, the following question remains: will he maintain such high production and be among the top-5 in this position for a long time or is it time to get good values by taking advantage of Williams’ great performances? I’ll go with the second option and hope I don’t regret it!
Brian Robinson (WAS)
From great promise last season to a sad episode when he was shot in the foot (literally), before the games started and then an intense adaptation process with the season underway, to the great hope of the Commanders’ land game this year, Brian Robinson has not been disappointing. It’s true that the RB’s numbers are inflated due to the “crazy” game against the Denver Bronco in which he had 87 yards, scored two ground TDs and was the highlight of the match with another 42 air yards. Numbers that gave him 28.90 fantasy points in PPR leagues and a great chance to take advantage of the moment for a high sale.
Other RBs to “sell high”: Raheem Mostert (MIA), DeAndre Swift (PHI), Rachaad White (TB), Jerome Ford (CLE).
Wide Receivers to “buy low”:
Ja’Marr Chase (CIN)
Chase has so far been the biggest loser due to the low productivity of the Bengals’ offense at the start of the season. With ten receptions in two games, one of the league’s great WRs has just 70 yards and occupies the “low” 157th position among players at the position who scored the most in Fantasy Football. Please note that Chase was selected by many GMs with pick number 2 overall in the virtual game’s Drafts, leaving the vast majority terrified by the low productivity shown so far. With Joe Burrow not being in 100% of his physical condition and even running the risk of missing the team in week 3, there is a great chance to negotiate with the GM who has Chase and pay a much lower price for the player.
A.J. Brown (PHI)
AJ Brown has been struggling so far this year. One of the most talented WRs in the entire NFL, the player is seeing his position partner DeVonta Smith gain more and more volume. It’s too early to say that DeVonta is becoming the Eagles’ WR1, but it’s safe to say that so far Jalen Hurts’ big explosive plays have been in connections with Smith. It is true that in terms of numbers of targets and receptions, Brown and Smith are in similar situations (the first has 16 targets and 11 receptions and the second 15 targets and the same 11 receptions), but Smith has already scored two TDs this year against none of his partner and has a considerably greater number of yards – 178 to 108. During the Eagles’ victory over the Vikings, it was possible to see AJ Brown complaining to Jalen Hurts on the sideline, even with the team in front on the scoreboard. AJ is worth a try right now!
Other WRs to “buy low”: Jaylen Waddle (MIA), DeAndre Hopkins (TEN), Cooper Kupp (LAR), Chris Godwin (TB), Amon-Ra St. Brown (DET), Christian Watson (GB), Stefon Diggs (BUF), Zay Flowers (BAL), Brandin Cooks (DAL)
Wide Receivers to “sell high”:
Mike Evans (TB)
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are, without a doubt, one of the pleasant surprises of the season so far and a lot of that is due to their connection with Baker Mayfield. Much contested, Baker is presenting great moments so far and surprising many, even this editor who writes to you. Therefore, Evans stands out until week 2 as the 4th best WR in fantasy points, with two touchdowns and an incredible 237 yards. If you have Evans on your team and like me, you still have doubts about Mayfield’s consistency, the time to “sell” the player is now to get good assets in his place.
Puka Nacua (LAR)
Has anyone heard Puka Nacua’s requests for MVP? Jokes aside, how the rookie on the Los Angeles Rams team has been playing! A pleasant surprise so far this year, second best wide receiver in points in Fantasy Football, nothing more, nothing less than 266 aerial yards, good resourcefulness, good connection with Matthew Stafford and everything is great, right? But therein lies the danger, as at some point in the season we should see Cooper Kupp return to the Los Angeles team. Indications that Puka production may drop a little. Honestly, given the Rams’ style of play, I even believe that Nacua will continue to be a good scorer, but he won’t be as dominant as he has been. Good time to sell it for a very high price.
Other WRs to “sell high”: Nico Collins (HOU), Garrett Wilson (NYJ), Josh Reynolds (DET), Tutu Atwell (LAR), Michael Pittman (IND).
Tight Ends to “buy low”:
Travis Kelce (KC)
The great NFL tight end, a first-round pick in the overwhelming majority of Drafts, but who has so far only played one game due to a knee injury and appeared with numbers well below what we are used to seeing. Targeted by Patrick Mahomes on nine occasions, Kelce caught the oval ball only four times, for 26 yards and scored a TD, well short of what we are tired of seeing in other seasons. That Kelce should gradually have more volume and will become dominant again, we have no doubt about that. However, those who started 0-2 can consider selling their star player and the values may not be so scary due to this start. It doesn’t hurt to try.
Other TEs to “buy low”: George Kittle (SF), Darren Waller (NYG), Pat Freiermuth (PIT), Dallas Goedert (PHI)
Tight Ends to “sell high”:
Hunter Henry (NE)
Best TE in week 1 of the NFL, great connection with Mac Jones and another consistent performance in week 2 that leaves him as the second best in the position so far in the league in fantasy points. Henry is Jones’ ball safety and tends to be used a lot in the end zone, however, the Patriots’ offense cannot be expected to be productive throughout the season, causing Henry to have a natural fall. I don’t believe he will finish in the top-5 of TEs, I think even well below. So the chance to sell the player is there.
Other TEs to “sell high”: Evan Engram (JAX), Hayden Hurst (CAR).
Quarterbacks to “buy low”:
Joe Burrow (CIN)
Two weeks well below usual, an injury whose real severity is unknown, low numbers, little protection and an attack that so far doesn’t work. Joe Burrow didn’t start 2023 well and doesn’t even remotely resemble Burrow from last year or the one who reached the Super Bowl in the 2021 league season. To make matters worse, the player is still doubtful for the duel against the Rams in week 3, which further increases the “flea behind the ears” of those who have the player on their squad. If you’re looking for a QB, the risk is now. Buy Burrow and hope he recovers soon and becomes dominant again.
Other QBs to “buy low”: Josh Allen (BUF), Lamar Jackson (BAL), Justin Fields (CHI).
Quarterbacks to “sell high”:
Kirk Cousins (MIN)
The Vikings have lost twice in 2023, but Kirk Cousins is still the best QB in the league in terms of Fantasy Football points. With the team needing to chase down the score against both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1 and the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2, Cousins needed to “let go of the game” and use and abuse his receivers Justin Jefferson, TJ Hockenson and Jordan Addison. Even with several turnovers, including three lost fumbles and one interception, Cousins threw for six TDs in two games and 708 yards, second only to Tua Tagovailoa in this regard. It’s hard to imagine that Kirk will maintain those big numbers in the future, so the chance to trade him high is now.
Other QBs to “sell high”: Jordan Love (GB), Russell Wilson (DEN), Jarred Goff (DET).
