The Renovation of Werne Gymnasium Completed, Official Reopening Set for October

Werne/Stockum. With the “management report”, the Werne Municipal Operations Committee (KBW) neared its end on Wednesday. Philipp Cramer, head of building management, had two pieces of good news and one piece of bad news.

The renovation of the gym on Horster Straße, which is used exclusively by TV Werne 03 (including judo), was completed in August. The aging sports facility received new building technology, and the outer shell and hall itself were renovated for around 1.26 million euros. 90 percent, i.e. 1.13 million euros, will be contributed from the “Investment Pact for the Promotion of Sports Facilities” funding program.

“We are probably under budget,” said Philipp Cramer, eliciting a smile from the committee members with this statement. And TV Werne 03 was also happy with the result and chose the reddish floor.

The construction of the new fire station for the Stockum fire engine is also making progress. “The shell construction work has been completed. The vehicle hall is currently being built,” reported Cramer.

The overall completion is scheduled for mid-2024. According to the head of building management, we are still staying within budget.

Underground car park is being renovated

Permanent water ingress through component joints, consequences of corrosion – parts of the underground car park are not in good condition. The KBW identified damage to the building structure in two areas in particular – in the Museumsplatz/Dechanei area and at Moormannplatz.

“There is also a need for renovation from a structural point of view,” explained Philipp Cramer. And further: “All of this costs a lot of money, but it has to be done in order to maintain operations.” He estimated the costs that had already been included in the business plan at around 300,000 euros.

The measure should be carried out directly after Sim-Jü. Cramer assumes a six to eight week period. “We found a competent company to carry out the work.”
