Ugo Humbert tames Stan Wawrinka and gives the Blues victory against Switzerland in the Davis Cup

The French team’s ideal debut in the Davis Cup continues this Tuesday in Manchester. After the initial victory of Adrian Mannarino against Dominic Stricker (3-6, 6-1, 6-4), Ugo Humbert also brought a precious point to the Blues by dominating Stan Wawrinka (6-4, 6-4 in 1h29 ).

This second success in two matches already ensures the victory of the Blues against Switzerland. But the pair Nicolas Mahut – Édouard Roger Vasselin will try to add a third and final point against Marc-Andrea Huesler and Stan Wawrinka, who could make the difference in this group B, while Sébastien Grosjean’s players will then face the Grande- Brittany and Australia.

Faced with a very generous Wawrinka (33 unforced errors), Humbert was able to save the four break points conceded in the first set and was opportunistic to take the Swiss’ service at the best moment in the first set. Impressive in the second set and despite a first match point collected on his put in play, the 36th player in the world finally folded the match on his third match point and after 1h29 of play.
