Up-and-Coming Boxer Gabriele Bellandi Takes on Top-Level Sparring in Rome

Sample among samples. Gabriele Bellandi has just returned from three days of sparring at Roma Boxe TorreAngela. With him, under the guidance of coach Alessandro El Moety, there were Antonio Marongiu, two-time Italian champion, the Scot Jacob Naismith, European champion, and Anthony El Moety, continental silver and national gold.

The 15-year-old from Volpiano, for his part, climbed to the second step of the podium for the Italian flag, as a Schoolboy and as a junior, and participated in the European Championships in the lower age sector in 2022. «The experience in the capital – says Bellandi – it was fantastic and allowed me to compete with athletes of the highest level. We had fun and also trained a lot, doing a total of 25 rounds. The other guys, who I already knew, are taller than me and I was able to hone my short-distance boxing and my ability to dodge other people’s blows and return». Gabriele, who he grew up in Pierangelo Toniolo’s strict school at Akiyama Settimo, practicing judo from the age of 3 to 13 and having to interrupt due to a ligament and meniscus injury, he leads an almost professional life, combined with books.

«Every morning – he explains – I get up at 5 and go for a run. I go home and get ready to take the train to school in Turin. I am a second year at the Alvar Aalto Technical Institute, address “Fashion and Marketing”, and I really like it. I am committed and the teachers understand my needs as an athlete. In the afternoon I run again, study and go to the Boxing Academy in Turin, to train with master Roberto Lavecchia. Three times a week I do CrossFit in Leinì.”

Bellandi has a real staff behind him, because, in addition to Lavecchia, for the technical part, he is followed by the athletic trainer Domenico Agresta, the sports psychologist Rosalba Romano and the nutritionist Felicina Biorci. Dad Omar also set up a well-equipped gym for him at home. The next appointment will be a three-day camp in Londonfrom October 10th: «I can’t wait to leave, it will be a further opportunity to grow as a boxer and as a person».
