Former Serie A footballer and coach Vincenzo Montella is the new coach of the Turkish men’s national football team: it was announced today and he has signed a three-year contract. Montella had already coached in Turkey, at Adana Demirspor, for two seasons until last June. Since then he had been without a team and now the Turkish Federation has chosen him as a replacement for the German Stefan Kuntz, who had been in charge for the previous three years.
Montella will be the seventh Italian coach in charge of a foreign national football team, after Gianni De Biasi (Azerbaijan), Domenico Tedesco (Belgium), Michele Marcolini (Malta), Francesco Calzona (Slovakia), Francesco Moriero (Maldives) and Stefano Cusin ( Southern Sudan). From 2024 these will also be joined by Carlo Ancelotti, current coach of Real Madrid, chosen last June to coach Brazil.
