But what could Jordan Poole have thrown in Draymond’s face to make him lose his nerve? What sore spot did he hit? Was this big altercation linked to questions of contract and big money?
These are the kinds of questions we all asked ourselves following the potato episode that plagued the Warriors for the entirety of last season. We now have answers.

So this is what Poole would have said to Draymond Green if we are to believe Pablo Torre on his podcast, which is based on an anonymous Warriors source.
For those who don’t have the ref, Jordan Poole simply told Draymond that he was being carried by Stephen Curry, and that he was paid way too much ($25 million) for that. Poole delivered this punchline as he was about to land his big contract with the Warriors ($128 million over four years), while Draymond was still waiting for a contract extension with one year to go of his deal. And to add a little spice to the story, we also remember that Green has sometimes been mocked on social networks for his shooting mechanics, with some saying “he shoots like he was wearing a backpack”.
It was too much for Draymond. And the rest, we know it.

When we are aware of Draymond Green’s role in the Warriors dynasty, we can understand why he took Jordan Poole’s comments as a big lack of respect, even if that obviously does not excuse his action.
Without Green’s defense, versatility and leadership, the Warriors would not have won four NBA championship titles between 2015 and 2022. So yes, undoubtedly Draymond would not have had the same career if he had not not played alongside Stephen Curry, the best shooter in history and in the discussion for the best all-time point guard. But it is specifically this association (among others) that allowed each of the two players to maximize their talents to make the Warriors a dynasty.
Now that we know the reasons for Draymond’s tantrum, now that Jordan Poole is in Washington, we can definitively close this chapter. However, there is a chance that future opponents of the Warriors will come up with a quote similar to Draymond to provoke him on the court. It’s up to Green to hold his nerve this time…
