Yasmina Eissa Sets Her Sights on the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris

Loughborough University Para Badminton star athlete Yasmina Eissa has her sights well set on the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.

The current Politics, Philosophy and Economics student has had a busy 2023 as preparations ramp up for the showpiece sporting event in the France capital city.

Between May and August, Egypt-native Yasmina competed in Level 1 and 2 international Para Badminton events in Thailand, Bahrain, Canada and the UK respectively.

The highlight performance was a Gold Medal in SH6 Women’s Doubles at the Canadian Para Badminton International in Ottawa. In combination with partner Jayci Simon of the USA, Yasmina clinched gold with a tight three-set win over Bujnicka & Szmigiel of Poland and Cai Yi-Lin & Wu Yu-Yen of Chinese Taipei.

Yasmina and Jayci followed up their win in Canada with a silver medal at the 4 Nations Para Badminton in Sheffield earlier this month. Just a short trip up the M1 from Yasmina’s current Loughborough residence, saw her produce another strong performance with the only loss coming to Rubi Milagros Fernandez Vargos & Chai Saeyang of Peru and Thailand respectively.

In the singles event, Yasmina also put in a good performance reaching the quarterfinals and pushing England’s former world champion Rachel Choong all the way in a three-set battle which she eventually narrowly lost 21-18, 16-21, 21-19.

Speaking to Loughborough Sport, Yasmina said: “I was really happy with my second-ever gold medal in Canada and then followed this up with the silver at the 4-Nations with a good performance –especially when my partnership with Jayci is still in its early stages.

“In the 4-Nations singles I was able to be competitive with the number one seed in the group match, and then eventually went out in the quarters, pushing a previous multiple world champion to three games with the final game score being 21-19.”

Yasmina will now continue her preparations with the Paralympic Games set to take place between 28 Aug 2024 – Sun, 8 Sept 2024.
