Coupe de France – In the 1/16 final of the Joë Jaunay Trophy, Chartres (LF2) created a bit of a sensation by eliminating Landerneau. If Charnay also qualified, the evening was especially marked by the XXL performance of Dominique Malonga in Toulouse.

There are performances that mark a career. Even more so at 17 years old… The 1/16 finals of the Coupe de France will thus remain as the scene of one of the first absolute successes of Dominique Malonga (1.97 m) on the professional scene. The young Tarbes prodigy Gespe Bigorre thus destroyed the Toulouse racket by accumulating 24 points at 11/16, 13 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 interception for 31 ratings in 33 minutes. That is, already, his third double-double of the season (in six official outings) and, by far, his career benchmark performance. Seen above the 20 point mark only once until then (23 points in Gdynia in the EuroCup), it had never reached the threshold of 30 evaluation, “stuck” at 24 during the Polish trip on January 12th. In its wake, Tarbes logically qualified for the 1/8th (81-57).

Among the two other LFB residents competing on Tuesday, one was unable to escape the trap set by a resident on the lower floor: on a visit to Chartres, Landerneau was picked up by the CCBF (70-72), victim in particular of Ty Battle’s five consecutive points in the money-time. “Honestly, the Coupe de France is not one of our major objectives”assures Eurelian coach Benoît Marty, interviewed by L’Écho Républicain. “It served as a big test for us to know what we were capable of showing against an LFB team. The girls really responded and I am very satisfied. In the 1/8 finals, it would be good to take on an LFB team in order to offer a very good display to our public. »

This potential opponent could possibly be Charnay, who left Illkirch-Graffenstaden unscathed, after a big fight with the SIG (67-59). Three minutes from the final buzzer, the score was still 58-57 but Monique Akoa-Makani’s teammates (16 points at 7/12, 4 rebounds and 6 assists) were able to accelerate in the money-time. The example to follow for Saint-Amand, still fanny in LFB and who will try to regain confidence this Wednesday in Reims.
