Alexander Zverev’s Promising 2023 Season and Quest for the ATP Finals

Returning from his serious injury (contracted in the semi‐finals of Roland‐Garros 2022 against Rafael Nadal) at the very beginning of the year, Alexander Zverev had a more than honorable 2023 season.

Titled in Hamburg and Chengdu at the start of the Asian tour, the German also reached the last four at Roland-Garros and Cincinnati, without forgetting his quarter-final at the US Open.

Finally seventh in the Race, Zverev is inevitably thinking about the Masters at the end of the year (November 11 to 19 in Turin). And in this sense, his defeat against Jordan Thompson this Monday (6−3, 6–4) in the first round of the ATP 500 in Tokyo hurts.

Beaten for the second consecutive time upon entering the competition after Shanghai, where he was beaten by Roman Safiullin (6−3, 6–1), the 9th in the world missed out on valuable points in the race for the ATP Finals.

Alexander Zverev will try to validate his ticket for the Masters in Europe, where he plans to play in Vienna (October 23 to 29) before the Masters 1000 at Paris‐Bercy (October 28 to November 5).
