The Algerian mixed judo selection qualified for the quarter-finals at the 2023 World Martial Arts Games taking place in Ryadh, Saudi Arabia, by beating Morocco with a score of 4-0 on Monday, and will face France.
The Algerian mixed team was composed of Zina Bouakache, winner of Ziane Wissal by ippon, Dris Messaoud Redouane who did the same against Jafy Mohammed (ippon), Amina Belkadi who won her fight against Chaimae Taibi (ippon) and Aghiles -Imad Benazough, also sender of his Moroccan opponent, Jaad Belgaid (ippon).
The last fight between the Algerian Sonia Asselah and Jihane El Houmate did not take place, since the qualification of the national team for the quarter-finals was already sealed with a score of 4-0.
Algeria will face France in the quarter-finals
In the quarter-finals, the Algerian selection will face, in the coming hours, France, exempt from the round of 16. The athlete Dris will enter the competition first against the Frenchman Alexandre Rubiano, before his compatriot Belkadi Amina will fight in front of Florine Soula. The 3rd fight will pit the Algerian Aghiles-Imad Benazough against his opponent Teo L’Herbier, it will be followed by that between Asselah against Dounia Nacer, and Mustapha Yasser Bouamar-Amadou Meite. The 5th and final fight is planned between Zina Bouakache and Chloe Devictor. The winner of the mixed match between Algeria and France will play for the semi-final, the winner of the fight between the Netherlands and Oubekistan.
It should be remembered that the Algerian team traveled with seven athletes including three ladies to Riyadh to take part in the World Martial Arts Games. These are Dris Messaoud (-73 kg), Imad Aghilès Benazoug (-73 kg), Mustapha Yasser Bouamar (+90 kg) and Mohamed El Mahdi Lili (+90 kg) for the men, as well as Zina Bouakache (- 57 kg), Belkadi Amina (-70 kg) and Sonia Aselah (+70 kg) for the ladies.
According to the organizers, 85 judokas (43 men and 42 women), representing 14 countries from five continents, will participate in this global event.
