Badminton England Welcomes New Additions to Board of Directors

15 September, 2023

Badminton England are pleased to announce three recent additions to the board of directors.

George Wood, Kate Aldridge and Chris Clements have all joined our board and will provide further valuable experience and insight to the organisation.

George is a sports development professional with 25 years of experience, the last 16 of which have been in senior leadership roles.

Most recently he was Sport Development Director at Swim England for six years with responsibility for talent pathways, clubs, events, coaching and the development of the sport.

A big fan of badminton, he played for Bedfordshire as a junior before representing both Warwickshire and Buckinghamshire first teams, and previously he was Community Game Director at Badminton England.

He said: “I am delighted to be joining the Board of Badminton England.  It is a sport and an organisation that is very close to my heart and I am delighted to have the chance to contribute to its development.”

Kate is currently Interim Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Director at the England & Wales Cricket Board, alongside her new role at Badminton England

After a year on the Badminton England EDI Committee, she joined the Board as Non-Executive Director in 2023 to help drive progress around EDI across badminton.

Kate was a keen badminton player as a teenager, playing in County competitions and local adult leagues across Sussex and Kent, and has embraced the opportunity to be involved in the game once again.

Kate said: “I’m delighted to be joining the Badminton England Board. Having been part of the EDI Committee for the past year, I’ve seen the genuine commitment across badminton to creating a more accessible and inclusive sport. I’m excited to be part of that story, and to share best practice from other sports.“

Chris joined the Badminton England board in July 2023, bringing a range of experience in digital and sports organisations.

He is currently Digital Products Lead at Wimbledon where his responsibilities include Wimbledon.com, the official mobile apps and other digital activations, which included innovations to grow and deepen the Wimbledon fan base.

He has competed at a national level in two sports and was recently responsible for the day to day running of one of the country’s largest rowing clubs.

He said: “It is extremely exciting to be joining the Badminton England board at such an important time for the organisation, in particular with the new strategy launching.

“I hope to be able to bring my experience to the board to ensure that Badminton England is supporting those delivering the sport to make the most of the opportunities in the digital space and get more people involved with Badminton.”
