Badminton Rinconada’s Conclusive Victory Against San Fernando Valencia Despite Absentees

Conclusive victory against San Fernando Valencia, despite not having all their troops

Badminton Rinconada is scary. Without yet having all the available personnel, Laura Molina’s boys (the corner coach, Antonio Molina, is in Algeria as senior coach) have given few options to a San Fernando Valencia team that nevertheless began by clearly winning the mixed doubles , a situation that caused bad omens but that, unlike on other occasions, was resolved by individual duels where Rinconada has been a real roller.

The match began with the only point that the locals gave up, the mixed doubles. In three quick sets, former corner player Fran Olivares and Bulgarian Hristomira Popovska beat Jaume Pérez and Claudia Leal (8-11, 7-11, 8-11). In the following double duels, the corner players would begin to show their superiority, thanks to the victories of Bea Corrales and Claudia Leal (11-6, 11-6, 11-2) and Jaume Pérez and Carlos Piris, in the most even match of the morning (11-5, 11-9, 8-11, 10-11, 11-4).

After the double duels, Rinconada came out with a slight advantage, but with the uncertainty of knowing what can happen in the individual duels where the rinconeros have not been especially powerful in recent years. However, the quality of the four players lined up today came to the fore, as the corner players achieved very clear victories. Firstly, Bea Corrales beat Hristomira Popovska quickly in three sets (11-5, 11-5, 11-2) and Thomas Fourcade also beat Arturo Hernández in three sets (11-9, 11-3, 11-5) and in the last duels Piris did not give Lorenzo Adell a chance (11-9, 11-4, 11-8) and Xu Wei did the same with Andrea Arrones also in three sets (11-2, 11-7 , 11-4) to make the score 6-1.

At the end of the meeting Laura Molina was “very satisfied with the enormous work done today. We started hesitantly but the team has been able to stay calm and trust each other. It is very important that both players who have lost the mixed have kept a cool head and it has not affected them to achieve the two victories in their other doubles. That says a lot about them.”

Regarding the score, Molina emphasizes that “it is not easy to win games like this in this league. It is very even and hitting the table like that at the first opportunity has a lot of merit. We have to continue along this line because the club’s objective is none other than to try to be among the best in the league as we have done before, and to achieve this we cannot fail too much.”
