Boca Fans Prepare for Historic Copa Libertadores Final Despite Alcohol Ban

Just over a week before the final, news surprised everyone. The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, signed a decree prohibiting the “consumption and sale of alcoholic beverages in the surroundings of the Mário Filho Stadium (Maracaná), on the occasion of the final match of the Copa Libertadores de América 2023.”

In effect, sale and consumption will be prohibited in the period between 00:00 hours on November 4, 2023 and 06:00 hours on November 5, 2023.

The complete decree

RIO DECREE No. 53416 OF OCTOBER 25, 2023

Provides for the prohibition of the consumption and sale of alcoholic beverages in the surroundings of the Mário Filho Stadium (Maracanã), on the occasion of the final match of the Copa Libertadores de América 2023.

CONSIDERING the holding of the final of the Copa Libertadores de América at the Mário Filho Stadium (Maracanã), on November 4, 2023, at 5 p.m.;

CONSIDERING the municipal competence to maintain urban order, through the exercise of police power, in compliance with the public interest of maintaining security in sports, which is also a fundamental right of the fan; Is

CONSIDERING that safety is one of the fundamental principles of sport, as established in article 2, section XVI of Federal Law No. 14,597/2023 (General Sports Law),

DECREE:

Art. 1 All sales and consumption of alcoholic beverages are prohibited in the surroundings of the Mário Filho Stadium (Maracanã) in the period between 00:00 hours on November 4, 2023 and 06:00 hours on November 5 of 2023.

Single paragraph. The belt formed by the following streets is considered “around” the stadium referred to in the caput:

1- Rua Conselheiro Olegário, in its entirety;

II – Rua Artur Menezes, in its entirety;

III- Rua Isidro de Figueiredo, in its entirety;

IV-Rua Professor Eurico Rabelo, in its entirety;

V-Av. Paula Sousa, in its entirety;

VI – Rua Mata Machado, corner of Av. Rei Pelé to the corner of Av. Paula Sousa;

VII- Rua Visconde de Itamarati, corner of Rua São Francisco Xavier to the corner of Profesor Eurico Rabelo;

VIII – Rua São Francisco Xavier, corner Av. Profesor Manoel de Abreu to the corner Av. Paula Sousa;

IX – Av. Maracaná, corner Rua São Francisco Xavier to the corner Rua Mata Machado;

X-Av. Maracană, detour, corner with Rua São Francisco Xavier to the detour, corner with Rua Mata

Axe;

XI – Plaza Presidente Emilio Garrastazu Médici, in its entire surroundings;

XII – Av. Rei Pelé, in its entirety;

XIII – Rua General Canabarro and its crossings to Rua Morais and Silva.

Art. 2 This Decree comes into force on the date of its publication.

Conmebol announced the referee for the Copa Libertadores final between Boca and Fluminense

Conmebol announced this Wednesday who will be the referees of the Copa Libertadores final between Boca and Fluminense, which will be played on Saturday, November 4 at the Maracaná. The person in charge of dispensing justice will be the Colombian Wilmar Roldán.

Roldán will be accompanied by his compatriots Alexander Guzmán and Dionisio Ruiz as assistants, while the fourth referee will be Andrés Rojas. The fifth, Wilmar Navarro. In this way, all the field judges will be Colombians for the duel between the Argentine team and the Brazilian team.
