Both from Duke, Marques Bolden Contemporaries with Jayson Tatum

Marques Bolden has officially joined the Milwaukee Bucks roster this season. The naturalized Indonesian player received an increase in contract status. Originally Exhibit-10. Now it is a two-way contract, which allows Bolden to also play on the Bucks’ G-League affiliate team, the Wisconsin Herd.

With Bolden’s status, there are 24 players from Duke University who will play in the NBA this season. Bolden was recorded as playing with the Duke Blue Devils in 2016-2019.

He is in the same class as Jayson Tatum. In their first year, they joined the Blue Devils roster and played alongside Grayson Allen, Luke Kennard, and Jack White. They are under the tutelage of coach Mike Krzyzewski.

Bolden and Tatum were also selected in the 2016 McDonald’s All Americans. From Duke, they also sent Frank Jackson, who now plays at Asvel in the French League. After that, Tatum skyrocketed to become the third pick of the 2017 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics.

Meanwhile, Bolden spent three years in the NCAA. His best achievement was the elite eight round in 2017-2018 and 2018-2019.

The player known as Joyo then entered the 2019 NBA Draft with Zion Williamson (who later became the first choice), RJ Barrett, and Cam Reddish. But Bolden was not selected in that year’s draft.

Under NBA rules since 2004, every player is required to play at least one year in college before participating in the NBA Draft. LeBron James is the last generation to enter the NBA directly from high school.

After not being selected in the 2019 NBA Draft, Bolden continued his work in the G-League with the Canton Charge, an affiliate team of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Bolden had received a 10-day contract and a two-way contract from the Cavaliers. Then Bolden was demoted more to the G-League.

The player from Texas was acquired by the Salt Lake City Stars (Utah Jazz affiliate team). In early October, Bolden returned to training camp with the Bucks and finally received a two-way contract.

“As a result of the Bucks team’s discussion, they were very impressed with Marques’ performance defending Indonesia in the Pre-Olympic Qualifier. “The good performance at that time opened up opportunities that led to this two-way contract,” said Indonesian national team manager Jeremy Santoso.
