FC Bayern Munich is sticking with professional Noussair Mazraoui. The German record champions announced this in a statement. The Moroccan international had shown several pro-Palestinian posts on his Instagram account after the barbaric attack by the Islamist Hamas on Israeli civilians and the counterattacks by the Israeli army. Among other things, Mazraoui wished the Palestinians a victory in the conflict with Israel.
No explicit condemnation of the Hamas attack
The Bayern management had a “clarifying conversation” with the full-back on Thursday. The statement now says: “Noussair Mazraoui has credibly assured us that, as a peace-loving person, he resolutely rejects terror and war. He regrets if his posts have caused irritation,” CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen is quoted as saying. It goes on to say: “FC Bayern condemns Hamas’ attack on Israel.” Mazraoui also stated that he “condemns every type of terrorism and every terrorist organization.” However, there is no explicit distancing from the Islamist Hamas.
Recently, numerous critics, including fan organizations, called for consequences for the professional, including suspension. FC Bayern has a great Jewish tradition and has an Israeli footballer in its ranks, goalkeeper Daniel Peretz.
