The Czech Tomas Machac won the CO’Met Orléans Open this Sunday, dominating the Briton Jack Draper in the final (6-4, 4-6, 6-3), after 2 hours 20 minutes of effort. The Arena, which hosted the tournament launched in 2005 for the first time, was almost full for the occasion, with nearly 5,000 spectators.
The seesaw in the seventh game
This final got off to a very strong start, with a shower of breaks in the first set (3 for Machac, and 2 for Draper), a bunch of big shots, and better control of the Czech’s emotions at the very end of the set (6-4 ).
His British rival, trailing for the first time this week, managed this uncomfortable situation well and managed to restore it, by stealing the second set, thanks to a newfound quality of service (3-3, 6-3). Worried by Draper until midway in the last round (3-3), Tomas Machac signed the switch in the seventh game (4-3), with a break acquired at a high price, which the Englishman n was never able to erase (6-3). He finally gave in on a final return that took too long…
Ten years after Stepanek
Tomas Machac, 118th in the world these days, but who will certainly be in the Top 100 on Monday, is the second Czech to win in Orléans, after Radek Stepanek in 2013.
