Leverkusen central defender Edmond Tapsoba had to cancel Sunday’s international trip at short notice due to inflammation of a tendon in his left ankle. The secondment period began on Monday and the 24-year-old was nominated for Burkina Faso. The defender has played 37 times for his country so far (one goal).

Tapsoba would have been required to play with his country in two matches – on October 13th against Equatorial Guinea and on October 17th against Mauritania – each in Casablanca. But after the Werkself’s 2-1 win on Thursday in the Europa League on artificial turf in Molde, he was already complaining of problems and had to leave the pitch in the 70th minute in Norway.

A few days later, the defensive man was able to take part again in the Rhine derby against 1. FC Köln. Even in the 3-0 home win, Tapsoba had to leave the field early and was substituted in the 71st minute due to the same ankle problems and replaced by Piero Hincapie.

Tapsoba absolutely set at Bayer

Tapsoba is an absolute leader in Leverkusen’s defense and has played all seven Bundesliga games, the two Europa League duels and the cup appearance against FC Teutonia Ottensen (8-0) from the start. So he also played his part in the Werkself’s strong start to the new season. In the Bundesliga, Bayer 04 is at the top of the table after seven match days with 19 out of 21 possible points ahead of the surprise team VfB Stuttgart and champions Bayern Munich.

Now the German upper house is taking a break for a few days, which gives Tapsoba the opportunity to recover from his injury. Leverkusen did not mention a downtime period on Monday. Leverkusen continues on October 21st (3:30 p.m.) with a guest appearance at VfL Wolfsburg.
