With the presence of the four players from Tucumán (Federico Veliz, Pablo Veliz, Gonzalo Suarez y Maximiliano Cuva) and the technical director Melina Veliz, Estudiantes qualified for the quarterfinals of the First Men’s National Cestoball League. The tournament is being played in the Talleres, Juventud Unida and Belgrano de Tafí Viejo stadiums. The event is organized by the Tucumán Federation and supervised by the Argentine Confederation.
The “Zebra” beat Nazareno (Misiones) by 88 to 52, and Bolívar (Buenos Aires) by 107 to 59. Thus, they remained as the only leader of group D. Today, from 12, they will close against CEF 5 (La Rioja) in the “Leonera”. In the afternoon they will play the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, the other three Tucumán lost their two games.
It is worth remembering that the first two in each group advance to the phase. The semifinals will be played on Sunday and the final will be played next Monday, starting at 12, on the Talleres court. Previously, the third place will be defined.
The surprise of the championship was the defeat of the defending champion, Dorrego from Santiago del Estero, against Vélez Sarsfield by 118 to 102. However, they raised their performance on the second date against Cestoball Famaillá (CEFA) with a resounding victory (153-54). –
