The 2023 WTA Tour is at full speed in the home stretch of the season: In the night from yesterday to today, the two group classifications for the WTA Finals in Cancun (Mexico) were published. As is practically a given, the two top seeds Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek lead the two groups of four.

Here is an overview of the two groups:

Chetumal Group

2. Iga Swiatek (Poland)3. Coco Gauff (USA)6. Ons Jabeur (Tunisia)7. Marketa Vondrousova (Czech Republic)

The absolute highlight in the Bacalar group will be the encounter between Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina. The Belarusian and the Russian, who competes for Kazakhstan, have faced each other three times in the current season, twice in the finals of the Australian Open and in the final of the highly prized WTA Tour 1000 event in Indian Wells (USA). While Sabalenka won the title in ” “Down Under”, Rybakina was able to leave the event in the Californian desert as the tournament winner.

The remaining three Grand Slam champions are in the Chetumal group (both groups were named after other cities on the Mexican Yucatan Peninsula). The rematch of the Wimbledon final between Ons Jabeur and Marketa Vondrousova deserves special attention. Coco Gauff (US Open winner) and Iga Swiatek (French Open winner) will meet in Mexico for the tenth time.
