Feyenoord Striker Henk Giménez’s Future Hangs in the Balance as Transfer Rumors Swirl

and Arne Slot both cannot guarantee that the attacker will finish the season as a Feyenoord player. Giménez continues to attract the attention of top international clubs due to his continued goal production. However, according to Slot, the striker will also have to score in the Champions League before he can make a top transfer.

The Mexican scored both goals for Feyenoord on Sunday in the away match against PEC Zwolle (0-2). Afterwards he attended the press conference and was asked a few questions about his future. “It’s out of my hands. We have to see if Feyenoord can keep me,” said Giménez, who indicated that his future is in the hands of God. “God will decide for me.”

Slot was asked whether Feyenoord should prevent the Eredivisie top scorer from leaving in January at all costs. “There are few Dutch clubs that can keep players at all costs,” he made clear. “In winter you generally see fewer major transfers. But it’s also about what the player wants.”

Slot pointed out that Giménez made a ‘special choice’ by going from Mexico to the Netherlands. “That step will not help you financially. He has made a conscious career choice and I think he is very emphatic about it. That’s why he started working so hard in the gym and on the training field when he came to the Netherlands. That has led to him being the player he is now.”

Giménez will therefore not agree to the first offer, his trainer suspects. “I would be surprised if he did not think very carefully about his next step. We all understand: if a truly unique club comes along… But I think, and that is an assumption, that he must first make a few in the Champions League before such a unique club comes knocking.”

In the summer, Giménez was already linked with several clubs, including Benfica, West Ham United and Atlético Madrid. Recently, journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Giménez was ‘one step away’ from a move to Madrid, but that ‘tight deadlines’ threw a spanner in the works. At the beginning of this week, German journalist Florian Plettenberg reported interest from Eintracht Frankfurt.
