Former Giants and Phillies Manager Gabe Kapler Interviewed for President of Baseball Operations Position with Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox are still searching for a president of baseball operations after the firing of Chaim Bloom and this Friday it emerged that former manager of the San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies, Gabe Kapler, was interviewed for the position, reported Alex Speier of the Boston Globe.

The Giants fired Kapler this season, who was the Phillies’ strategist for two years. He was previously a player for the Boston Red Sox, whom he helped win the 2004 World Series.

Kapler is the latest candidate to be interviewed from a group of managers that includes Chicago Cubs assistant manager Craig Breslow, Minnesota Twins general manager Thad Levine and Cleveland Guardians special assistant , Neal Huntington.

Former Miami Marlins general manager Kim Ng has not been considered for the job.

“I’ll tell you plain and simple, we need more baseball people. It’s just that. We need more baseball in Boston, we need to bring the (winning) culture, we need to have people who are proud to put on the uniform and say ‘I’m of the Red Sox and I don’t want to be anything else,’” said team legend Pedro Martínez.

“It’s not that Chaim (Bloom) didn’t represent that, he did, but this is a market where Bostonians are proud to be Bostonians. Bostonians are proud to say ‘my Red Sox won today.’ As loyal and good as they are to their teams, they expect success so they can show it off,” he added.
