In a letter addressed to the presidents of leagues, committees and stakeholders in French judo, Frank Opitz announced this Thursday his intention to run for president of the French Federation of judo, ju-jitsu, kendo and associated disciplines (FFJDA). Elections will take place in a year, in November 2024. The term is four years.
Frank Opitz has been president of the Occitanie League of judo, ju-jitsu, kendo and associated disciplines since June 2016, but also a member of the board of directors of the FFJDA since November 2016. In his declaration of intent, he explains the reasons for his candidacy in these terms: “This decision is based on my strong desire to contribute positively to the development and prosperity of our Federation by relying on the fundamental principles of our disciplines. »
“The FFJDA can become an example of success and integrity in society and within French sport”
He also presents his vision: “I am committed to ensuring that money serves a project and not that money is our project. (…) I categorically refuse any project that would prioritize financial profitability to the detriment of our values and our primary mission: to develop judo for the benefit of its licensees. Our Federation must be at the service of clubs and their teachers, actively supporting them by creating an environment favorable to their development.”
Frank Opitz says he is “convinced that the FFJDA can become an example of success and integrity in society and within French sport. Its influence will once again be recognized by international judo authorities.”
Over the next few months, Frank Opitz and his team will work to develop a program with managers, club teachers, committee and league officials, referees, sports commissioners, athletes and senior officials. They want “a project which will unify our Federation and restore its greatness in the service of our clubs, our teachers and our licensees”.
President since 2020, Stéphane Nomis therefore knows the identity of one of his opponents for the next elections.
