Hamane Niang
Following the end of his mandate as president of Fiba-monde, Hamane Niang was appointed president of the Foundation of the said body. Like the presidency of Fiba, that of the Foundation also has a mandate of the same duration. That of Hamane Niang extends from 2023 to 2027.
Honorary President of FIBA, Hamane Niang has been appointed as the new President of the FIBA Foundation. With this appointment, the former minister and ex-president of the Malian Basketball Federation replaces Horacio Muratore, another Honorary President of FIBA. “I am proud to take on this role within the FIBA Foundation, which has achieved remarkable results over the past 16 years using basketball as a means to make a difference in so many communities around the world.”, suggested Hamane Niang. The FIBA Foundation Board of Directors reached a milestone by including three women for the first time, including FIBA Hall of Fame member Michelle Timms, as well as a legendary player and FIBA Basketball World Cup winner in the person of Predrag Stojakovic. “Together with my fellow management members, I will commit to ensuring that the FIBA Foundation continues to go from strength to strength. We will use basketball as a tool for good, while preserving and developing the cultural heritage of our fantastic sport.”said Hamane Niang.
The social and heritage component of FIBA, the Foundation uses the power of basketball to initiate positive social changes and to reference the entire history of international basketball. Its two main pillars are the ‘Basketball For Good’ program and that dedicated to the enrichment of cultural heritage. ‘Basketball For Good’ priorities include projects around the world to support Mini Basketball, youth leadership and community impact, while those relating to cultural heritage focus on supporting and developing collections in connection with basketball and historical archives, on the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball, on the community of basketball historians and on the FIBA Hall of Fame.
