Hypothetical Final Match in Bois-Francs: Beavers impress with another great evening

If the weather permits, it will happen in Bois-Francs on Sunday. The hypothetical final match would be played at Acton Vale starting at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Thanksgiving Day.

We allow ourselves to insist on the adjective “hypothetical”, but one thing is certain, the Beavers have just offered another great evening to their supporters. They were of course more than the majority among a crowd of at least 400 people on Friday.

Saad provided much of the spectacle, allowing only four hits and a measly walk in a complete game. He recorded eight strikeouts, notably thanks to a very biting curve.

“Pressure brings out the best in me. It even seems to calm me down! The cries of the opponents motivate me and I really like playing in front of an energetic crowd,” explained the right-hander, who obtained his team’s two victories in this final.

Very close to a circuit

Saad certainly held his breath in the fourth inning, but the ball hit by Pierre-Olivier Marcoux just fell off the line. Instead of tying the game with a three-run homer, Marcoux then cut through the air for a third strike. So in baseball, a few yards can change a lot of things.

The points produced by Leonardo Ochoa and Dave Gauthier (twice) therefore proved sufficient in the Valois camp. Yourri Babin and Samuel Roussy imitated Gauthier with two hits each.

“We took the lead quite early and then Phil Saad did a great job. He’s a real gamer. In important moments, I want to have a guy like him on the mound,” commented player-manager Johan Ochoa, himself the author of several important plays at shortstop.

Étienne Blanchette (seven hits and three runs allowed in five innings) is the losing pitcher for Victoriaville.

His teammates would no doubt have preferred to close the books on Friday, but now they have the opportunity to win top honors at home. Another reason for celebration: the Cactus has never lost three games in a row in 2023.

“We are far from panicking,” commented player-manager Rylan Sandoval. Both teams did well tonight. We weren’t able to gain the upper hand, but we remained firmly in the driver’s seat.”
