Iga Swiatek is in the final in Beijing

At some point every series comes to an end. And so after Washington, Cincinnati and the US Open there will be no further tournament victory for Coco Gauff. Because the American’s winning streak came to a crashing end against Iga Swiatek. Swiatek, seeded second in Beijing, won 6:2 and 6:3 after 79 minutes of play and will face either Liudmilla Samosonova or Elena Rybakina in the final tomorrow.

For Swiatek it was the eighth success in the ninth comparison with Gauff. The eventual US Open winner was only able to hold her own in three sets in the semi-finals in Cincinnati. For Iga Swiatek, who had to give up the top position in the WTA charts after the tournament in Flushing Meadows, the 16th singles title of her career is on the line on Sunday. And the fifth one this year. So far, the 22-year-old has already triumphed in Doha, Stuttgart, Roland-Garros and Warsaw.

Swiatek explained in an on-court interview after her victory that she could finally play freely again. And that she doesn’t really care who she has to face in the final.
