In search of old glory: Nairo Quintana returns to Movistar next season | cycling

Nairo Quintana will once again defend the colors of the Spanish Movistar. The team confirmed the Colombian climber’s return on social media.

The 33-year-old Quintana knows the house well, because he already drove for Movistar for eight seasons between 2012 and 2019. During that period, he won the Tour of Italy (2014) and the Tour of Spain (2016) and was on the podium of the Tour three times (second in 2013 and 2015, third in 2016).

Between 2020 and 2022, the French procontinental Arkéa Samsic was his employer.

This year he was without a team after being caught using the banned painkiller tramadol. As a result, the Colombian was removed from the rankings of the 2022 Tour, in which he had finished sixth. Quintana challenged that disqualification at the TAS, but was met with a refusal.

“It is very emotional for me to return,” says Quintana. “It was a very difficult year. Sleepless nights, so many days full of sacrifices, getting on the bike and keeping going, in the rain or the scorching sun. But it was all worth it.”

“I will not waste this opportunity. I know the values of the team and of the sport. I will give everything to do it the right way and I want to help the team achieve the best results.”
