Japan Takes Gold in Men’s Team Competition at Gymnastics World Championships

The first medals at the Gymnastics World Championships in Antwerp have been handed out. The Japanese won gold in the men’s team competition at the Sportpaleis. Defending champion China held off the United States in the battle for silver.

Led by Olympic champion Daiki Hashimoto, the Japanese team performed excellent exercises.

Halfway through the final, the five jumped over and over China to their first world title since 2015. Japan beat their great rival with a bonus of almost 2 points.

After sloppy qualifications, China had only just qualified for the final. They took revenge, but beating Japan was not an option this time.

In the battle for bronze, the US preceded Max Whitlock’s Great Britain. The Americans grew into the competition and took their first medal in almost 10 years.

Tomorrow it’s up to Simone Biles and her American team in the women’s final.
