[5th (Reuters)]- Joel Embiid of the NBA’s 76ers intends to represent the United States at the 2024 Paris Olympics, US sports network ESPN reported.

According to ESPN, Embiid informed U.S. national team executive director Grant Hill on the morning of the 5th. The two met earlier this week.

Embiid, a 29-year-old native of Cameroon, has three options because he has French and American citizenship, and told reporters on the 2nd that he was undecided.

Sources told ESPN that Embiid made the decision because he wanted to help the U.S. team rebuild after missing out on a medal at this summer’s World Cup.

Embiid was twice the NBA’s leading scorer, a six-time All-Star, and the league’s MVP. He played in 66 games last season and averaged a career-high 33.1 points per game, along with 10.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists.
