Latvian and Baltic champions “TTT Rīga” basketball players celebrated a crushing victory in the first game of the Baltic Women’s Basketball League (BSBL) season on Sunday.

The visiting Riga team defeated the team of “Daugavpils University” (DU) with the result 105: 46 (28:12, 31:12, 23:11, 23:11).
All 11 players went on the court and scored points. Gabija Meshkonite was the most productive with 21 points and eight rebounds, Evelina Otto added 15+9, Margo Klavo – 12+7, Louise Silas also scored 12 points.
Polish player Kinga Piedela scored half of the team’s points, or 23, for the home team.
The other Latvian teams will play their first matches in the BSBL next week.
Latvia will be represented in the new BSBL season by “TTT Rīga”, “Rīga Stradiņa University” (RSU), “Liepāja”/LSSS, “Daugavpils University” (DU), “Rīga Juniores”/LU, “Jūrmala” and “TTT Juniores”, but from Lithuanian teams, Vilnius “Kibirkštis”, Klaipeda “Neptūnas”, Kaunas “Aistes”, Klaipeda LCC, “Šiauliai-Vilmers” and newcomer “Panevezys” will compete in the tournament.
A two-round tournament will be played in the main tournament. The winner of the first place will qualify for the final four tournament, but 2nd-7th. three more “Final 4” participants will determine the place holders in the quarter-finals in a series of two games.
At the end of the season, the championship of the Latvian Women’s Basketball League will also be played, where the Latvian champions will be determined.
In the previous season, “TTT Rīga” became the champion team of BSBL, which beat Vilnius “Kibirkštis” team 69:68 in the final, but in the Latvian championship, the girls from Riga were superior to the RSU basketball players in the final series up to two victories with 2-0.
