Luka Doncic is considered by many experts as the future of the league, as the one who will carry the NBA after retirements of LeBron James or Stephen Curry. But for a colleague, there is another nugget that could derail his politeness.
When we think of the next generation of superstars, it’s hard not to think of Luka Doncicwho has been shining brightly since his arrival in the league in 2018. At the dawn of his sixth season, the Slovenian already has a fairly impressive record on an individual level with 4 selections for the All-Star Game and as many selections in All-NBA teams.
Beyond the achievements and the figures, Luka is also and above all a particular style. He’s not the fastest, he’s far from the most athletic, and yet, when he decides to carry his team on his shoulders, he is simply unstoppable. If Kyrie Irving manages to support him and the defense gets up to speed, watch out for Dallas in the Western Conference.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ahead of Luka offensively?
Despite all the enormous qualities of No. 77, some colleagues do not necessarily see him as the future of the league. For the trigger, there would be another young talent stronger than Luka Doncic, or at least with a more developed arsenal offensively.

Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander are two MVP caliber players. I know Luka is going to win this title one day, and Shai has a strong case to win it too. I think Luka is better so far in the way he makes others better. He’s close to a LeBron James in that sense. But Shai can do more things on the pitch. Offensively he is too talented and he is difficult to defend.
They know how to use the body to score, but Shai does it more fluidly. He also knows how to score in more different ways from mid-range. He has a bit of Kyrie in his game. Luka uses his shoulders when he is under the basket, Shai uses them all the time. When he does, he makes his opponents fly into the paint. He is too big and strong for the small leaders, he is too fast for the others.
Danny Green is clear: even if Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander are two potential candidates for the MVP title, the Thunder leader would be the most talented and versatile offensively. He particularly highlights his ability to use his body to gain the advantage over his defender and his finishing quality near the circle. That’s a lot of compliment after just one season at the highest level.
Since the start of his career, Luka Doncic has shown much more than Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and yet, according to some players, the latter is more complete than the Slovenian on the offensive level.
