Mali Edges Uganda with a 1-0 Victory in Friendly Match

Mali suffered but ultimately won by the smallest of margins 1-0 against Uganda, this Friday in a friendly match at the Stade du 26-Mars in Bamako. After hitting the post twice and losing two frames to injury, the Eagles found the fault at the end of the game, under the leadership of Fousseni Diabaté, credited with his first cape.

From the start, Mali tried to trap the Ugandan defense using acceleration shots and rapid phases of play. This resulted in a shot on target in the arms of the goalkeeper (10th). The Eagles continued the offensives and got a free kick, taken off target by Kamory Doumbia (18th).

The meeting was briefly interrupted afterwards, due to the exit of Ibrahim Koné (30th) who was evacuated by ambulance and replaced by Lassine Sinayoko. The striker, whose ankle turned horribly, was the victim of a serious injury and was taken home under the tears of Mohamed Camara. Obviously worrying less than three months before the CAN…

Galvanized after the exit of their center forward, Eagles were more dangerous and hit the uprights twice. First on a free kick: Amadou Dante sending his shot onto the crossbar (35th). Then at the end of a collective action, with a powerful strike from Doumbia pushed back by the post and which Nene Dorgeles could not take advantage of. Faced with an empty goal, the Salzburg center forward sent his shot over the top (41st).

Diabaté, the Malian X factor

The Eagles were not at the end of their misfortune, as they lost their left back Falaye Sacko, who was taken out on a stretcher just before half-time (45th + 7). Up front, success always eluded the attackers, like Mamadou Fofana who notably missed his recovery against the goalkeeper following a free kick from Doumbia (50th). Same observation two minutes later, when Dorgeles was denied a goal for an offside position (52nd).

We had to wait for the new Fousseni Diabaté to come into play to break the deadlock in the match. The Lausanne-Sport winger, who was finally celebrating his first cap, served Adama Noss Traore who was brought down in the area. Lassine Sinayoko converted the penalty and allowed the Malians to take the lead on the scoreboard (1-0, 74th).

A victory ultimately deserved for the men ofEric Chellewho will face Saudi Arabia next Tuesday in the Algarve in Portugal.
