Metropolitans Struggle to Find Victory as Cholet Dominates

Betclic ELITE – The Metropolitans lost their fifth match in as many matches on Wednesday evening at home, against Cholet (78-92). Faced with a well-established team, the Ile-de-France residents once again lacked desire. Awareness is necessary on the side of Boulogne-Levallois to return to victory.

Laurent Vila, the Cholet coach, showed a big smile at a press conference on Wednesday evening after his team’s victory 92 to 78. Satisfied with the masterful victory of his protégés on the floor of Boulogne-Levallois, the Catalan did not stop praise for his team. “We have a great group, who live very well. The qualifying tournament for the Champions League (BCL) in Turkey and the victories won strengthened our cohesion. This (Wednesday) evening, with a reduced workforce, we showed a lot of solidarity. Hats off to the players.”

The combativeness of Cholet

In the absence of Kim Tillie, injured in the foot, the Rouge et Blanc actually suffered in the racket (26 rebounds captured against 34 for the Metropolitans 92) against the Ile-de-France residents led by Josh Carlton and, above all, Abdoulaye Loum, whose the 12 catches on Wednesday allowed him to cross the symbolic bar of 1,000 career rebounds. The Maugeois compensated with a lot of intensity and constant activity in defense, allowing them to transform the numerous stolen balls (16 including 4 for Tidjane Salaün alone) in the Ile-de-France hands into easy baskets (26 points scored against -attack). “The players showed a lot of fighting spirit”, said the Cholet technician after the match. An analysis shared by his captain, TJ Campbell (16 points and 4 assists for 21 evaluation), who underlined the “roster depth” and praised the performance of the replacements, including “the intensity and harshness had a decisive impact this (Wednesday) evening”.

In the opposing camp, the atmosphere was completely different. At the end of a still messy match on the Mets side (21 lost balls), Laurent Foirest, their coach, tried as best he could to be positive. “Tonight we didn’t lower our heads. We arrived with a little more desire than usual, and we managed to stay in the match in the first half. But we still lack toughness…”. Abandoning the Coué method, the Parisian coach once again castigated the attitude of his troops and added. “Some are defending, but others are three meters from their player. Everyone has to give of themselves.”

An attitude problem among the Metropolitans

Abdoulaye Loum, disappointed with the behavior of his team in front of his audience, went even further. “What we need is more desire, more fighting spirit. I try to set an example as best I can as a veteran, but the rest of the group has to follow. Since the start of the season, we have lacked fighting spirit and character. We don’t fight for rebounds, we can’t get the ball up… it’s very complicated. ». Visibly affected by this new defeat, the captain sounded the alarm and called for awareness from his teammates. “If we don’t fight, if we don’t change our attitude, we will not achieve the objective, which today is to remain in Betclic Elite”. The Mets 92 are warned, salvation will come through a change of state of mind.

Cholet Basket, still undefeated this season, plunged Boulogne-Levallois a little deeper into crisis. While he impatiently awaits the return of his soldiers (Lahaou Konate and Axel Toupane), and, aware of the emergency situation in which the Hauts de Seine club finds itself, Laurent Foirest is already promising “changes to come within the workforce”while Dee Bost and Matthieu Gauzin have already arrived.
