The president of the Port Authority of Cádiz (Spain), Teófila Martínez, together with the director, Agustín Romero, have communicated to the mayor of Puerto Real, Aurora Salvador, the recent projects that have begun in the La Cabezuela-Puerto dock Real.
In this context, the creation of a covered facility will be carried out in La Cabezuela for the handling of solid bulk, specifically clinker. The main objective of this installation is to minimize as much as possible the dust projections associated with the loading and unloading operations of this mineral.
The project, which will be executed by Holcim through an administrative concession, now begins its administrative processing process after having passed the competition procedure. The investment planned for this project is 4.7 million euros.
Specifically, a warehouse will be built with a rectangular layout that will cover 190 meters long and 26 meters wide, generating a constructed area of almost 5,000 m². This warehouse will be located parallel to the edge of the West Pier, where the windbreak screens are already located, whose functionality will be strengthened thanks to this new installation.
It is worth mentioning that this investment is added to other actions aimed at improving the environmental environment and reducing the impact of port activities, responding to the concerns of the inhabitants of the area, in particular, the residents of the San Pedro River.
Residents have for years expressed concern about the possible negative effects on their health resulting from bulk unloading. Now, reducing dust emissions can have a positive effect on air quality and the health of people living nearby.
On the other hand, the Port Authority has presented to Aurora Salvador the progress in the expansion of the access control zone to the La Cabezuela dock. The proposal includes moving the control point to the area closest to the gas station located next to the Constitution of 1812 bridge, in order to reinforce the security and supervision of said space.
Another novelty in the area is that the Port of Cádiz has received a request from Holcim Spain for the granting of a general concession that will be used in the construction and operation of a logistics space for the storage and distribution of solid bulk.
