NHL Mourns the Loss of Chris Snow, Assistant GM of Calgary Flames

The NHL professional ice hockey league mourns the loss of Chris Snow. The vice-president and assistant general manager of the Calgary Flames lost his battle with the incurable nerve disease ALS on Saturday. He was 42 years old.

“Today we hugged and said goodbye to Chris for the last time as he gave four people the gift of life by donating his kidneys, liver and lungs,” wrote Snow’s wife Kelsie on X, formerly Twitter: “We are deeply shocked and very proud.”

Chris Snow’s father, two uncles and a cousin also died of ALS

Snow was diagnosed with ALS in 2019, shortly after losing his father, two uncles and a cousin to the disease. Last Tuesday he suffered a cardiac arrest. Two days later, his wife announced that he would not wake up.

Snow was very open about his illness until the end and did not quit his job. At the NHL Awards last year, he was visibly impressed and presented the Norris Trophy for the best defenseman of the season with his wife and two children – and received a standing ovation. (sid/js)
