October twelve. Parade and military parade now called (since 1987) ‘National Holiday Day’, years ago hailed as ‘Hispanic Day’, and further back ‘Race Day’.

TVE1 has started its ‘Telediario’ at 3pm. with these words: «Upon his arrival, and also at the end of the parade, the acting President of the Government was booed and rebuked.». And throughout the informative story, when the camera was focused on him, they placed a sign that said «Insults against Pedro Sánchez». Also a few hours before, in TVE1’s live monitoring of the parade, they inserted headlines that said “Pedro Sánchez has been received with whistles and boos». And the sound of the screams, invectives and expletives reached us clearly, that is, they did not cover it or try to hide it so that we would not hear it. Journalist Xabier Fortescommentator on the live broadcast, pointed out: «This fashion of shouting and whistling began with Zapatero. Now with Sánchez it has gained more intensity. Let’s listen, let’s listen!». And then, later, when he was asked by his colleagues from ‘La Hora de la 1’ about this loud fight full of piercing whistles, he noted: «Yes, there has been wind music, and a polyphonic choir has been incorporated with shouts of ‘Let Txapote vote for you!’». Ah! What an enjoyable retranca, pointing out the ‘wind music’ of the whistling staff and the incorporation of the polyphonic choir ‘Let Txapote vote for you!’ to give more energy to the fight against Sánchez. In other words, TVE has chosen not to silence what was happening, nor to lower the sound so that we would not hear anything. It is a television attitude that I applaud. Wanting to cover up reality is cheating. It is smarter to show what happens, and highlight it. The vociferous anger, well highlighted with microphones and cameras, even with touches of humor, normalizes the ‘digest’. Dilutes the acid.

I really liked these brushstrokes of Xabier Fortes. In the end, at the end of the act, he noticed the ‘cuirassiers’ of the Royal Guard and exclaimed: «Sparks of sun and silver fly through the pores of these shells». Ah! Fortes has read well those verses of Ruben Dario: «Sparks that under the golden sun / this blue shell of the sky, bathes». This point of poetry, after such a tremendous vociferous polyphonic chorale, has been a detail, a ‘finezza’, valuable and rare.
