Newly promoted Rasta Vechta is shaking up the basketball Bundesliga. The small town club (34,000 inhabitants) won all of their first three competitive games. First there was a victory in the cup against Rostock, then the league successes against the former series champions Bamberg and Champions League winners Bonn.

The advantage is that Vechta already knows the upper house. Promotion to the Bundesliga was achieved for the fourth time. However, the club was never able to stay in the league in the long term. Things should change now – they want to stay in the BBL with all their might.
Or even more? Rasta already enchanted the Bundesliga in the 2018/2019 season. It was sensational to reach the semi-finals under successful coach Pedro Calles (now Oldenburg). The Lower Saxony team can surprise again this season.

Promotion coach Ty Harrelson has managed to keep three absolute heroes from last season with captain Chip Flanigan, Joel Aminu and Joschka Ferner. In addition, the new additions are a real hit! Playmaker Tommy Kuhse (most recently from Ludwigsburg) is the linchpin at Rasta. In the first two league games he averaged over 26 points.
The royal transfer also delivers! Wes Iwundu has a lot of NBA experience. He played over 230 games in the best league in the world – including appearances for Orlando, Dallas and Atlanta. For the American, he was only a role player there, but in Vechta he is the star.

These two professionals in particular give the newcomer hope. Another advantage: Rasta has managed to fully integrate two native plants. The huge talents Johann Grünloh (18) and Nat-Sidi Diallo (23) come from their own youth and also play in the professional team.
If things continue like this, relegation should be secured quickly and Vechta can even dream of more. The former elevator team definitely has the potential for this.
