Shkodran Mustafi Surprises Fans with His ‘Favorite Pairing’ in DFB Cup Draw

Hardly any TV viewer would have expected these words.

After soccer world champion Shkodran Mustafi acted as a lottery ticket in the draw for the second round of the DFB Cup, he surprised the fans when he was asked afterwards for his opinion on the table.

When ARD presenter Stephanie Müller-Spirra asked Mustafi whether he had a “favorite pairing”, the unexpected answer was: SV Sandhausen – Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

Shkodran Mustafi finds Sandhausen – Leverkusen “very interesting”

Mustafi initially joined DFB vice-president and draw manager Peter Frymuth, who saw the duel between FC St. Pauli and FC Schalke 04 ahead, but then said in the same breath: “I also find Sandhausen against Leverkusen very interesting.”

The reason? “Leverkusen are very, very strong in the league at the moment and the cup is still a different competition. I would like to see how they perform against Sandhausen.”

Not everyone on social media understood the explanation; on the former Twitter (new name X) there were various astonished reactions (“He really said it like that”).
