The first sports venue in the country, the historic National Stadium of Lima turns 71 years old since its inauguration, a space where extraordinary sporting deeds have been written and where great idols of world sports have paraded.
The venue known as “The House of the National Team”, because it is where the red and white team plays at home, was inaugurated by former president Manuel A. Odría on October 27, 1952. It is worth noting that the field already existed there and the wooden stands of the old Stadium since 1927.
In 2011 it was remodeled and currently has a capacity for 39,000 spectators in the four stands and 10,000 in the boxes.
In the sports complex, there are also the offices of the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) and facilities of some National Sports Federations such as boxing, table tennis, badminton, billiards, kung fu, among others.
Olympic Museum
Within its facilities it has an Olympic Museum that pays tribute to world sport and the sporting achievements of Peru. In this space you can see a monument to Edwin Vásquez, a shooter who won the gold medal at the 1948 London Olympic Games. Likewise, a gallery of photos, posters of the Olympic Games, medals, sports philately and historical objects from Peruvian athletes who gave laurels to Peru.
