Waiver Wire Options for Fantasy Football: Strengthening Your Roster for the Second Half of the Season

We missed eight weeks of NFL and Fantasy Football. This will be the last waiver article for October and before we know it, the year will be over. Unfortunately, Kirk Cousins (Achilles) and Kendrick Bourne (ACL) will miss the remainder of the season.

We have now been several weeks in which there is no conclusively clear waiver, so the best we can do is look for depth for our rosters, find the best streamers in the right positions and speculate a little with certain players. Here are some alternatives to strengthen our teams for the second half of the season.

I remind you that the parameter to appear in this space is an availability greater than 50% in NFL Fantasy.

Kyler Murray- Arizona Cardinals (63% disponible)

What was said last week. If you have room on the roster and your quarterback alternatives are not in the Top 5, you have to look for it now. He could be the piece you didn’t know you were missing on your roster to win a Fantasy championship.

Sam Howell- Washington Commanders (68% disponible)

At this point what is surprising is Howell’s very high availability. He shouldn’t even be considered a streamer anymore. He has finished with 16 or more fantasy points in six of eight games so far this season, including three Top 8 performances in the last four games. Had he already told you that he rests until week 14?

Derek Carr- New Orleans Saints (81% disponible)

Faith moves mountains and Carr knows it. Solid floor, limited ceiling. Four consecutive games with at least 16 fantasy points. There are a couple more favorable matchups on the radar before their bye in Week 11. Billie Joe Armstrong quarterback remains a usable option.

Will Levis- Tennessee Titans (99% disponible)

The “eat banana with shell” (Alpanseque would say) gave a different face to the Titans. DeAndre Hopkins appreciates it. Mayonnaise sales are through the roof. Levis’ performance should have cemented him as the starter in Tennessee for at least the rest of the season. You don’t have to get too excited or expect 4-touchdown games every week, but it certainly looks like an interesting option for those who have lost their quarterback to injury.

Tyjae Spears- Tennessee Titans (81% disponible)

Apparently, the rumors about Derrick Henry leaving for another team have ended. That doesn’t mean Spears should be so highly available. Although his role and utilization will be limited by the presence of King Henry, the rookie has established himself as an aerial option, accumulating at least 4 targets in five of seven games this season. He seems to be unusable at the moment, but you never know…

Darrell Henderson- Los Angeles Rams (62% disponible)

Horse of battle? It may not come close to that, but Henderson is clearly the primary running and passing option in this backfield. Although the goal-line role appears to belong to Royce Freeman, Henderson has been a Top 20 alternative in the two games in which he has been active. Apparently Sean McVay doesn’t want anything to do with Zach Evans.

Zach Charbonnet- Seattle Seahawks (63% disponible)

This rookie has only managed to accumulate 10 touches in a game all season. However, it is important to look for him for our teams for two reasons: 1. his use should increase as the season progresses and 2. his value would grow enormously in the event of any absence due to injury to Kenneth Walker.

Emari Demercado- Arizona Cardinals (94% available)

Outside of the “blip” against the Rams, Demercado has had at least 13 opportunities in every game since James Conner went out injured (Week 5). There may be little enthusiasm for his matchup against Cleveland in Week 9, but he is the Cardinals’ running back until we hear from Conner.

Royce Freeman- Los Angeles Rams (91% disponible)

I’m generally not a big fan of targeting the running back in the “goal line role.” However, the silver lining with Freeman is that he has seen respectable volume on the ground in the last two games, averaging 10.5 carries. It is only a filling option in case of emergency or for a rest week.

Rashid Shaheed- New Orleans Saints (72% disponible)

Boom or bust. Shaheed has three performances in the Top 12 of the position. Coincidentally, these results have occurred when he has had a touchdown. I think he is an interesting alternative to use one week as a Flex, but I don’t consider him a player with much potential in the long term.

Jameson Williams- Detroit Lions (63% disponible)

Contrary to Shaheed’s case. Although he tends more to “bust” than to “boom”, his participation in Detroit’s offense (snaps, routes run, targets) is increasing. He rests in Week 9, so it is a more speculative move for the close of the season, thinking that “Ja-mo” can realize the potential that the Lions saw in him when drafting him in 2022. He is an option to “beat him to the waiver”, since he plays in MNF.

Josh Reynolds- Detroit Lions (73% disponible)

Contrary to the case of his teammate, his participation is declining. After starting the season with 7 targets, he has gradually decreased until he has 3 in his last games. He opted to “beat the waiver” and hold out on the bench for a week, then line up against the Chargers.

Khalil Shakir- Buffalo Bills (99% disponible)

After five consecutive games in which he had 1 (ONE) target, his role seems to be increasing as a complement to Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis. I don’t think it should be considered anything more than mere speculation, because let’s not forget that James Cook and Dalton Kincaid are also in the competition for targets in the Bills.

Demario Douglas- New England Patriots (96% disponible)

I never thought I’d say this, but with injuries to DeVante Parker (concussion) and Kendrick Bourne (ACL), Douglas becomes the de facto WR1 on the Patriots. He averages 6.5 targets per game in the last two and his next opponents are the Commanders and the Colts. Do with this information what you think is appropriate.

Trey McBride- Arizona Cardinals (98% disponible)

Well yes. Happened. McBride’s involvement in the Cards’ offense had been growing even before Zach Ertz’s injury. Now, in his first game with the position just for him, he took 14 (yes, fourteen) targets, which he converted into 10 receptions for 95 yards and 1 touchdown. He’s probably my favorite waiver of the week.

Michael Mayer- Las Vegas Raiders (97% available)

We all want to see Michael Mayer. He is already in rhythm with the offense and is playing the vast majority of snaps for the Raiders. He averages 5 targets in his last two matches and you can go after him before he starts his match. For me he is a potential Top 12 player between now and the end of the season.

Taysom Hill- New Orleans Saints (89% disponible)

At last! The real Tay Tay! The one that does matter for Fantasy Football matters! Do not accept imitations. Although this week he returned to his normal territories of 1 target per game, he made up for that with 9 carries for 63 yards and 2 touchdowns and seems to be the solution to the Saints’ red zone offense’s problems. Welcome to the Taysom Hill experience!

Atlanta Falcons (89% available)

Who will play in place of Kirk Cousins? My favorite defense of the week..

Las Vegas Raiders (92% available)

Tommy DeVito? Daniel Jones? It doesn’t matter. Consecutive weeks against New York teams.

New England Patriots (56% disponible)

Sam Howell’s sack count stands at 41. Nothing more to say.
