In a very tough tournament with more than 400 cadets from all over the west, you had to be strong to go to the end. This is what Yanis Klelly-Grousset from Vannes managed to do, who continues his rise. Calm and extremely focused, he performed flawlessly using his liveliness and technique to win his fights quickly until the final. “I worked well, there was a level but I didn’t give up.”
Aware of his qualities and the work that remains to be done, he forms a real duo with his long-time trainer Fred Pautler. “It’s gratifying as a teacher to have such a nugget. There is a real student-teacher sharing with mutual respect which helps us both progress. He is very attentive. He has the technique, I have the tactics and his intelligence means that he will continue to move to the next level. I support his motivation because he has everything he needs,” explains the latter.
Far from stereotypical judo, Yanis uses his qualities to aim for performance in each tournament and would like to be able to compete in European competitions before appearing at the French championship.
