8:09 p.m

Rublev vs. Zverev 6:1, 3:4

That was without much effort for Sascha.

8:07 p.m

Rublev vs. Zverev 6:1, 3:3

Andrey Rublev, we don’t want to hide that, is serving very well today. Same now.

8:04 p.m

Sascha pushes himself…

…and rightly so. It’s not his thing to give up anyway. But that could have quickly taken an unpleasant turn.

8:03 p.m

Rublev vs. Zverev 6:1, 2:3

Sascha came very close to the time violation twice, but what hurts was the volley into the net at 30:15. The audience is there for Zverev. Was that the reason for the ace to the cue ball? Andrey makes his debut with a humorless backhand return. The next time Rublev wins a point, Sascha’s racket flies, but stays intact. Nevertheless: Breakball for Andrey after a half-baked net attack. Rublev misses a feasible forehand.

7:56 p.m

Rublev vs. Zverev 6:1, 2:2

From Sascha’s point of view, this is a bit too easy when Andrey serves.

7:53 p.m

Over in Basel…

… (our daily look, the first for today) the wonderful Dominic Stricker unfortunately had to say goodbye in the quarter-finals a few minutes ago. No shame against Ugo Humbert, who is getting stronger and stronger.

7:51 p.m

Rublev vs. Zverev 6:1, 1:2

Rublev could have scored the first point, but not the following three.

7:48 p.m

Rublev vs. Zverev 6:1, 1:1

After 30:0, Rublev failed to get a stop. But at 30 all, Zverev’s forehand return doesn’t come again.

7:45 p.m

Rublev vs. Zverev 6:1, 0:1

Andrey reads Sascha’s service really well so far. Nevertheless, Zverev obviously has to make the volley at 30:15. Doesn’t matter. An ace and a backhand error from Rublev give Zverev the first lead in a set.

7:39 p.m

Conclusion I

Well: That was much easier for Andrey than expected. Because with Sascha the first serve comes too rarely. And because the forehand is too error-prone.

7:37 p.m

Rublev vs. Zverev 6:1

Zverev’s forehand serve brings Rublev the point twice. 40:15, two set points. Andrey nails the first one into the net without any need. The second time he aims better.

7:34 p.m

Rublev vs. Zverev 5:1

A forehand error, a net attack that wasn’t fully completed: 0:30 again. And then another ball passed out. Three break points for Rublo. Sascha fends off the first one with his backhand. On the second Andrey volleys into the net. But the third one sits.

19:30 o’clock

In the standard work…

… “How to beat Sascha Zverev” (Unknown author, but it is rumored that, depending on the surface, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Nick Kyrgios co-wrote it) there is already the note on page seven: “Play quickly into his forehand . Or not so fast. But you won’t be able to do anything with the backhand.”

7:28 p.m

Rublev vs. Zverev 4:1

Andrey confirmed. Important for him, who didn’t seem too optimistic yesterday.

7:25 p.m

There is a bit…

… unrest in the audience, people come and go to their seats as they see fit, Sascha doesn’t entirely agree with it.

7:21 p.m

Rublev vs. Zverev 3:1

We, that is Sascha, are making our debut for the first time. Four times. There are two aces in this game so far, but basically Andrey has returned quite well so far. The first break ball comes after a forehand from Zverev that is too long. Rublev grabs hold.

7:14 p.m

The serve…

… from Zverev, that’s the shot that worries Rublev the most. He said that in the PK yesterday. The good news: the balls aren’t too fast. That helps him a little bit, i.e. Andrey.

7:09 p.m

Rublev vs. Zverev 2:1

It’s unbelievable what balls Zverev digs up behind the baseline. But Rublev remains focused.

7:05 p.m

Rublev vs. Zverev 1:1

First net attack from Rublo at 30:0 for Sascha, it is not a successful one.

7:02 p.m

Rublev vs. Zverev 1:0

People get closer to each other. Not that there are any big unknowns: Zverev and Rublev have literally known each other since they were children.

6:58 p.m

Sascha has the…

… won the election – and would first like to look at Andrey’s serve from a distance. Ready? Play!

6:55 p.m

Overall we can expect…

… the eighth meeting between these two: Zverev won the first five, Rublev won the two most recent ones in Dubai and Bastad this year.

6:54 p.m

With Rublev and Zverev…

… two former champions meet in Vienna: Sascha won the title in 2021, Andrey the year before.

6:53 p.m

Since Tuesday …

…by the way, the town hall is sold out. You can say: Great! And that despite the fact that there is no longer a local hero at the start.

6:50 p.m

In the hall there will be…

… dark. That means: Zverev and Rublev are literally in the starting blocks. And there the boys are already!

6:43 p.m

A relatively wonderful…

…We can wish you an evening from the Wiener Stadthalle. We are looking forward to the match between Andyre Rublev and Sascha Zverev. The signs are such that things are about to start. because Stefanos Tsitsipas just defeated Gojo Borna in two close sets. A quick wipe with a damp cloth – and off we go for Sascha and Rublo.
