17-Year-Old Warren Zaire-Emery Makes History as Youngest Player and Scorer for French National Team Since WWI

Midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery, started against Gibraltar, is at 17 years eight months and 10 days the youngest player to play in the French team since the First World War, Saturday in Nice in qualifying for Euro-2024 .

The Paris Saint-Germain player does better than Eduardo Camavinga, seriously injured in a knee and absent for several months, who was 17 years 9 months and 28 days old for his first selection against Croatia (4-2 victory) on September 8, 2020 .

The Frenchman’s evening became even more historic when he scored the Blues’ third goal in the 16th minute of play, becoming the youngest scorer in the history of the French team. On a cross from Kinglsey Coman, the young Parisian was on the receiving end to deceive the goalkeeper.

But at the moment of his victorious deflection, Zaire-Emery was violently tackled by defender Ethan Santos. Suffering from his ankle, the 17-year-old was unable to continue and was directly replaced by Youssouf Fofana.

He will therefore have contrasting memories of his first with the Blues!
