Albina Torres and Sebastian Robledo Shine in Santiago de Chile 2023 Parapan American Games

Albina Torres participated in Monday’s day of the Santiago de Chile 2023 Parapan American Games, the second San Luis native to have her experience in the tournament. The Puntana representative fell in the semifinals against the local Mariela López by 79 to 49 and despite that defeat she was very satisfied with her participation.

“This was a unique experience, sharing with other athletes, with colleagues, talking about discipline, about training, it is something that I will take with me forever. I am happy to have made it this far to my first games and I already know what my failures were. in the competition. This drives me to continue growing,” commented the athlete from the Lucas Rodríguez neighborhood of the capital of San Luis.

Now, López will compete against Tracy Otto for the gold medal, but also for the ticket to Paris 2024, which will be for the winner. Because it was a competition with only three entries, it was decided that the podium would only be two for this category: W1.

This Tuesday it will be the turn of the draw and the start of activity for Sebastián Robledo, the third and last Puntano, who competes in parabadminton. “I’m waiting for the draw and whoever it is, here we are going to raise the flag, we are going to put our heart and soul into fulfilling my purpose,” the athlete told El Diario.

More silvers and bronzes

The Argentine delegation yesterday added three silver medals on the third day of competition of the Games that will last until Sunday the 26th.

Two of those second places were in swimming, while the third corresponded to judo. Meanwhile, six bronze medals were also won.

Elián Araya from Lobera obtained the silver medal in the 100 meters breaststroke SB14, with a time of 1’12”26. The winner and gold medal was the Brazilian Gabriel Bandeira, with 1’07”42 (new Parapan American record).

In addition, Lucas Leguiza from Chaco, only 15 years old, finished second in the final of the 100 meter butterfly S8 modality, with a time of 1’08”45. The representative of the Regatas Resistencia club followed the Brazilian Gabriel Silva, with 1’05”93. In this same division, Facundo Signorini from Santa Fe finished fifth, with 1’17”43.

Meanwhile, in judo, Nadia Boggiano from Rosario reached the Parapan American runner-up position by losing the final by ippon to Brazilian Brenda Souza, in the category up to 70 kilograms with visual impairment (J1-J2).

In table tennis, there were also bronze medals achieved in mixed doubles by Coty Garrone-Elías Romero (XD4-7) and by Darío Neira-Giselle Muñoz (XD14-17). The third podium came from the female pairing composed of Nayla Kuell-Coty Garrone (WD5-10).

And there was a fourth bronze medal achieved by Fernando Eberhardt and José Bustamante, who reacted and beat the Cubans Yunier Fernández and Osvaldo Nodarse by 3-2.

Meanwhile, in shooting, María Laura Rodríguez Belvedere from Córdoba achieved third place and qualification for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games in the mixed 10-meter prone air rifle (SH2) modality.

There was also a bronze medal in judo, by Cristian Alderete from Matanzas, who beat Chilean Ricardo Parra by ippon, in the division up to 90 kilos (J1-J2).

The Buenos Aires athlete, father of five children and who plays the trombone in the National Symphony for the Blind, climbed to the third step of the podium. The gold medal in the category went to the Cuban Yordani Fernández, who beat the Brazilian Willians Silva in the definition.

Meanwhile, the 7-a-side soccer team with cerebral palsy aftereffects beat its counterpart from Venezuela 4-0. The goals were the work of Matías Bassi, Carlos Carrizo, Hernando Romussi and Matías Fernández. The next rival will be Canada this Thursday.
