Alexander Zverev now makes headlines almost more often with his hairstyle than with his performances on the tennis court. The reason: He lost a bet against Sophia Thomalla and was therefore not allowed to go to the hairdresser for a year. His girlfriend has had a lot of fun with this on Instagram several times.
A real exchange of blows has now developed between the couple. Recently, in an interview, Zverev openly thought about appearing bald in the near future, which resulted in a clear announcement from Thomalla. Now the 26-year-old answers again – again, of course, with a wink.

“I don’t have to ask anyone how far I let them perform. I decide that alone,” Zverev recently made it clear to “Sport Bild”, but Sophia Thomalla immediately contradicted him on Instagram. Her cheeky counter: “I thought he was in Turin and not in Wunschhausen.”

Zverev doesn’t want to let that happen. After his surprising win against Carlos Alcaraz at the ATP Finals on Monday, he took up the topic again. In “Bild” he is quoted with a specific assumption regarding his partner:
“She would prefer the hair to stay like that.”
The professional athlete then explains this further. He jokingly suspects that jealousy could be a driving motive for Sophia Thomalla. Accordingly he adds: “So that I look like a complete idiot so that no other woman looks at me anymore, only her.”

Zverev then emphasizes again that ultimately he won’t let anyone talk him into it when it comes to his hair – not even his girlfriend: “I’ll do whatever I want with my hair. But I like to hear your opinion, but then I decide for myself.“
Alexander Zverev at least rules out letting his hair grow even longer than Sophia Thomalla wears it. “It’s still getting that far!” is his clear reaction to the corresponding demand.
In any case, one thing is certain: the “one-year deadline” will soon be over and Alexander Zverev has already booked an appointment with the hairdresser. What will come of it remains to be seen – perhaps the tennis star will surprise everyone in the end. It is also certain that Sophia Thomalla will make (at least) one comment afterwards.
Now Zverev is concentrating on his next game: On Wednesday he will face the Russian Daniil Medvedev. If he wins, he will move into the semi-finals in Turin. First a tournament victory, then a new hairstyle – Zverev would certainly have no objection to that.
